Breakfast in Starbucks

Having some difficulties sleeping after the car accident a few days ago I decided to get out early and go to Starbucks on Biyun road.

This is by far the nicest Starbucks in Shanghai. I am honestly impressed by Starbucks that they are able to keep the style and taste so similiar all over the world, even in China! I suppose the level of the Starbucks branches in China will improve even more now after Starbucks bought them back from the local representative.

Anyway, this Starbucks has high standards and is nice to visit during the week days as it is not so croweded then. Early Saturday and Sunday is also quite OK. The view from this coffee shop is quite unique to be in a big city like Shanghai, green playing fields and no tall buildings nearby.

Today I bought my classic breakfast, venti cappucino and blueberry muffin. A few minutes after I bought my breakfast I got an email from Starbucks saying “Congratulations, you have reached gold level”.

More about the perks of being on gold level in my next post.

Breakfast from Family Mart

The ones of you who follow me on Facebook or Instagram know that I am a Starbucks fan. My breakfast habit the past two years is a venti cappuccino and a skinny blueberry muffin. Today however I went to FamilyMart and bought my breakfast, for just 41 RMB I got a large cappuccino, blackberry yogurt, ham and cheese sandwich and a 445ml lemon juice. Quite good compared to Starbucks where just the muffin and cappuccino cost 50 RMB.

I admit the Starbucks coffee is millions times better than FamilyMart’s but still it is good to change sometimes and save some money.

Bad breakfast habits

Back home in Sweden or in China, it doesn’t matter. My breakfast habits are the same. In Sweden, I stop at Frendo (similiar to 7 Eleven) and buy a cappuccino and sandwich on the way to the office. In Shanghai, I stop at Starbucks and buy a cappuccino and skinny blueberry muffin before I get on the metro. Probably neither one is very good.

We all know we should eat a healthy breakfast before leave for work or school but I think most do like me, grab something on the way and eat it while on the move or when you have arrived at your desk.

I am not sure if it is correct but someone told me approximately 3000 calories per day is the suggested daily intake.

Let us count the calories in my standard Starbucks breakfast; Venti Cappucino with skimmed milk is 129 calories, the skinny blueberry muffin is a whopping 264 calories. Total 393 calories.

393 calories intake on the breakfast and that probably would be fine if it was on protein and fiber but I’m quite sure it is going on sugar. Like the nutrition expert say after a Starbucks breakfast like this you will be lacking oomph and be hungry again pretty soon.

So, what to do? What is your best advice for a breakfast on-the-go?
