Japan perpetuates a pine tree that survived after the tsunami

The new symbol of Hope

The new symbol of Hope

The lonely tree that survived after the destructive tsunami in Japan has
been perpetuated by metal. The tree was turned into a symbol of hope for
many Japanese people that were left with no roof over head after the disaster.
The project which was started, for the creation of the metal pine tree’s replica,
led 14 automobile companies in total to one goal – giving hope.

Experts stated that such a thing happens for first time in the country’s history –
many rival companies out-stretching hands for one same purpose.

tree of hope

“The idea stuck us suddenly. When we talked it over, none of us even thought to give up on it or back off. In order to make it realistic and close to the real thing, I paid a visit to where the pine tree stands its ground. It is amazing, how one single tree found strength to survive in and after such a disaster.”, said the leader of the project, Takashi Nakashima.

The metal pine tree is made of thousand and thousand small and detailed parts and all of them
are handcrafted. To be built up it was needed around two months; the project brought all
engineers of 14 automobile companies together, for its birth. After the idea was brought to life,
the professionals stated they shall work together on such projects again.
